Don't try too hard, though, as the game has some breathtaking scenery, and you may miss something if you rush through.

If you tried really hard, you could cut that down to six. I completed the medium difficulty campaign in about nine hours, but I wasn't hurrying.

There are short parts where you use a long-range sniper rifle and have to allow for the wind and distance, or playing the level entirely in night vision goggles, and they stand out as ways to break up the feeling of playing multiplayer levels with bots. The story has enough gameplay elements in it to keep you engaged for the entire length. The story is new, with elements from a more modern setting. The game is similar to the original in name only, though it does share some of the same characters. Infinity Ward brings the single-player story back in a big way in Modern Warfare. These things are built below the main audio track and add depth and realism that you can appreciate when you are in a good set of headphones. You can also hear background noise not related to what you are doing, like dogs barking in the distance or generators running. The sound of gunfire inside a building when your character is outside is distinct from the sound when you are inside the same building. There were gunshots, of course, but a considerable variety. At specific points in the game, I would stand still, turn the volume up, and see what I could hear. It has been layered to produce a depth to the sound that you rarely hear. From the debris on the ground, to the clouds in the sky, everything looks like it was created to be super detailed.Īccording to Infinity Ward, the audio is something the company is very proud of, and rightly so. All the playable areas in the game are vivid and detailed as you move around them. The picture at the top of the review is straight from the game, and the quality is like that throughout. Long hallways with minimal cover points offer a fast escape route for potential runners, but high accuracy and fast aiming is required when advancing through this large complex (CoD 4).The game seamlessly switches from cutscene to gameplay, as well. "Vacant," a deserted Russian office complex offering a great mixture of interior and exterior combat. The large monument, connecting streets, and surrounding buildings offer great firefights in Team Deathmatch, and great vantage points for objective team games (CoD 4). "Strike," a large urban desert town, excellent for medium-to-large team games. Junk covered yards, deserted trailers, and debris-riddled surroundings offer intense firefights with a wide variety of vantage points and routes available. "Trailer Park," a medium-sized mobile estate with a maze of tight flank routes and lots of cover. The spacious surroundings offer a great sniper advantage offices, warehouses, and buildings house objectives and provide opportunity for close-range firefights. "Fuel," a massive oil refinery with extremely long sightlines great for medium- to long-range firefights. The once vibrant rides now sit idle and neglected as perfect cover points in one of the most original multiplayer locations for Modern Warfare 2. "Carnival," a large abandoned theme park that offers lots of unique vantage points that work well for all game modes. Adds five new maps with two maps from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
